Adobe® Photoshop® Elements 3.0: A New Version!
Part 3

Auto Smart Fix

Auto Smart Fix is smart. It's one of the best auto correction tools I've seen, outshining the Auto Levels and Auto Color tools from the previous version. You can reach it from the Quick Fix workspace or in the Edit workspace from the Enhance menu. Sometimes one click is all it takes! The color in the photo on the right below is accurate as far as my brain can recall that long ago (yes, that is me at age 4!)  If you get a result that is close but still needs editing, try Enhance > Adjust Smart Fix for even more control. If you want to control the amount of Smart Fix you can even start with Adjust Smart Fix and move the slider to control how much correction is applied. If you prefer you can even apply the effect with Adjust Smart Fix and preview in real time how the correction will look.

This is an extreme example, and the results are nothing you would want to frame, but just to show you the power of this tool, here is a shot of my son's vintage snowmobile before and after Auto Smart Fix:

Reduce Noise

Another new feature is the Reduce Noise filter. This filter reduces the noise that you see in digital photos, particularly those in low lighting conditions. After using Auto Smart Fix on the snowmobile, I used the Reduce Noise Filter. It is found at Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise. Set the amount of noise to remove, the amount of detail to retain, and the strength of the correction. You have lots of control and can preview your results in real time.
